  Subsea Energy Australia

  As the offshore oil and gas industry matures and moves into deeper waters the global subsea oil and gas market will expand at an ever increasing rate. This market is growing today and it has been recognized internationally that the Australasian region has significant growth potential. In fact a recent Scottish Enterprise report “Energy Industry Market Forecasts 2007-2011 The Subsea Market” highlighted the expanding market potential of the Australasian subsea market as can be seen in the graphs below:

As this market grows within the region and globally there exists an opportunity to organize, develop and export Australia’s capabilities. To assist in achieving this, a group of interested companies have formed “Subsea Energy Australia”. A not-for-profit industry association aimed at championing the Australian subsea industry and promoting our capabilities to the wider regional and global markets. Subsea Energy Australia (SEA) is to a certain extent modeled on and setup in a similar fashion to Subsea UK which “is the industry body and focal point for the entire British subsea industry and aims to increase business opportunities at home and abroad for the sector.”

Like Subsea UK, SEA aims to be the organisation, developed and run by industry for industry and to act on behalf of industry as a focal point for companies representing the entire subsea oil and gas supply chain from operators & large contractors through to suppliers, SME’s and universities. It is intended that SEA will be a national organisation representing a diverse range of members from all states and territories with subsea oil and gas interests. Initial objectives of SEA are:

- To facilitate a national forum for commercial networking;
- To provide a coordinated marketing umbrella for the Australian subsea industry, with members represented under a common banner;
- To provide a means of addressing accelerated technology commercialisation;
- To survey operator needs in Australasian and SE Asian export markets;
- To publish a guide to sources of government support;
- To be a single point of communication between Australian subsea industry and Government
To enable SEA to achieve these objectives a range of activities have been planned. These include:
- Coordinate overseas missions in association with SEA members;
- Coordinate key subsea events at global trade shows;
- Organise networking lunches / breakfasts with keynote speakers;
- Organise SEA exhibitions in Australia and SE Asia;
- Survey the market, provide updates on industry requirements and a directory of members and their services/expertise;
- Organise meetings with Operators;
- Organize workshops to address and assist industry issues;
- Arrange SEA social events.
